Turquoise Honeycomb Reef Platter

Wheel thrown using speckled grey clay that fires to a soft slate colour. When this has dried to leather hard I’ve carved a honeycomb reef pattern into it – honeycomb reef is made by a small worm, using grains of sand and shell to build small tubes in which they live. The reef can be meters long and quite high too!

I’ve glazed the inside of this in a soft satin turquoise but have left the rim and external surfaces unglazed. This lets you appreciate the speckle and smoothness of the clay. The platter measures approx 28 cm across and approx 3.5 cm high.

Whilst this will be OK in a dishwasher I wouldn’t recommend for any hand made ceramics
