Turquoise Honeycomb Reef Bowl

Wheel thrown using a grey stoneware clay that fires with a lovely speckle. Once leather heard (the perfect stage between too wet and too dry) I’ve carved a honeycomb reef pattern on the outer surface. Honeycomb Reef is found all over my local beach and is made by a worm from tiny specks of sand and shell. 

This dish is glazed in a glossy white inside which lets the speckle of the clay and the flow of the glaze show through, and a matt-satin turquoise outside. I’ve scraped the glaze off the rim, leaving the clay raw and burnished.  Measures 12 cm high and 23 cm at the rim.
